… a first day of Portfolio Reviews by Mark at SxSE PhotoGallery, Molena, and, in between, shooting around Georgia’s Piedmont with a guide
… an evening Opening Reception for Black and White Now, curated by Mark
… a second day of touring Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Little White House and State Park
… followed by a drive to Plains to tour Jimmy Carter’s homesite and farm
… and an evening revisiting Eggleston’s Election Eve with Mark presenting, along with our own projections from the day
… and last, but far from least, Jimmy Carter teaches Sunday School class on Sunday morning at Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains
What better time in recent history to visit the beloved homes of two of our greatest statesmen.
ITINERARY
FRIDAY (day):
All workshop attendees will have a 20-minute portfolio review with Mark between the hours of 9-4. Timing is based on registration, you may choose your time when you sign up for the workshop by dropping me a line nancy@sxsemagazine.com.
Before and after your review you may join others and a guide at set locations for shooting landscape and architectural landmarks around Pike, Upson, and Meriwether counties. A timeline and map will be provided.
FRIDAY (evening):
Opening Reception of Black and White Now. This event will take place from 6-8pm at the South x Southeast photogallery, Molena, Ga. Friends and family are invited. Mark will give a juror’s talk.
ACCOMMODATIONS: The Mountaintop Inn in Warm Springs has reserved rooms at a group rate for workshop participants for both Thursday and Friday nights. The Mountaintop Inn is approximately 20 minutes from Molena, sitting atop Pine Mountain with beautiful views. More information on how to reserve your room will be sent once you’ve registered. Rates will be @$100/night.
SATURDAY (day):
We meet in Warm Springs at the Little White House at 9:00 am. We’ll shoot the interior, exterior, and museum, and/or you may want to explore FDR State Park for overlooks, hiking trails and rock structures built by the CCC under FDR. Also, the FDR Historic Site still has the spring-fed pools where Roosevelt took therapy for polio.
At 11:30 we’ll meet for lunch in Warm Springs before heading to Plains, Georgia. Plains is 1.5 hours south of Warm Springs down lovely country highways. You may choose to join the group for lunch, or dine later; car pool, caravan, or drive down at your own pace hoping to find just the right shot along the way.
At 3pm we’ll tour the childhood home of Jimmy Carter, and the outbuildings on the family farm.
From there we’ll explore Plains before making the 20-minute drive to Americus, Georgia, and the Windsor Hotel. Group rates are available at the Windsor and information will be given upon registration. Rates will be @$100/night.
SATURDAY (evening): We’ll all meet for dinner at 6:30 at the Windsor hotel. After dinner we’ll retire to a conference room for a presentation by Mark on Eggleston’s Election Eve, along with projections of images we’ve taken during the day. Coffee and dessert will be served during the presentation.
SUNDAY: President Jimmy Carter teaches Sunday School at the Maranatha Baptist Church every Sunday when he and Mrs. Carter are home. He is scheduled to teach on this Sunday. I hope you’ll join us for Sunday School, and stay for the Sunday service if you’d like, also. President and Mrs. Carter avail themselves to all for one photo each after the Sunday service, but only for those who attend the Sunday service.
